3D Sunflower Cardigan – Black

Night falls, and the sunflowers keep shining. Against a black ground each bloom stands up in three dimensions, petals built from plump popcorn stitches around an amber centre, so the gold seems lit from within, like a field under a harvest moon. It is a cardigan with a sense of theatre and the good sense to keep it to one idea. Throw it open over a roll-neck and a long white skirt, or jeans and boots. The fit is relaxed and sits at the hip, with a ribbed collar, cuffs and hem. Crocheted by hand in squares, the rows run close to straight but never ruler-true.
