Mosaic Cardigan – Burgundy & Mustard

An autumn orchard in a single square: mustard like late pears, sage like the leaves still holding on, a soft taupe of bark and a bright cream centre at the heart. Each square is built round by round in clusters of three stitches, and every one is framed in deep burgundy, so the colours glow rather than shout. The cardigan hangs open on a plain burgundy band, falls to the hip, and carries the squares right down its straight sleeves to a clean burgundy edge. A cotton blend gives it a soft, substantial hand that moves rather than clings. Women artisans crochet it by hand, which is why no two squares mix their colours in quite the same order.
