Balaclava – Black & Rainbow

Every square is a small sunrise seen through a window at night. The rounds open from a tight centre into red, orange, yellow, pink, purple and blue, and the black around them keeps each colour clean, the way a dark sky makes a firework sharper. On a grey street this balaclava is pure defiance. Wear it for the gig that runs late, the cold allotment, the walk home under winter lights. The hood comes down deep over the neck and pulls on in one movement. Crocheted by hand, the squares run their colours in an order that shifts from one to the next.
