Balaclava – Black & Burgundy

There is something of a stained-glass window here. Black works like the lead between the panes, and inside it burgundy, cream, taupe and a glint of mustard glow as if lit from behind. The palette is old and warm, the kind of colour you find in a church at evensong or a well-worn rug. Worn under a dark coat, this balaclava gives the face a frame worth looking at. The hood comes down deep at the neck to keep the throat warm, and pulls straight on with nothing to fasten. Each large square is crocheted on its own and joined by hand.
